Biography

Sonia Steidle lives with her family in southern Germany on Lake Constance.

"In her paintings, Sonia Steidle invents her very own plant cosmos: flowers and fruit pistils, seeds

and foliage mutate into abstract forms.

The essence of the plant itself emerges - symbolising the metaphysical longing for the infinite."

"KunstNatur" - Regina Lange

Whether in large-format pictures or simple wooden slats, Sonia Steidle always succeeds in creating a double effect: despite the isolation of the individual plants, the vitality and luxuriance of rampant nature is present everywhere. The sensuality of the forms is always palpable, the impulse to grow in the bare stem under the blossom, the strange or brimming eroticism of the plant's reproductive organs... The well-tempered voluptuousness of the colours that nature spreads out is usually accompanied by a monochrome, here subtly, there strongly contrasting colour background. These are not academic cut-outs of plants or gentle pictures of flowers, but colourful works of power analogous to nature.
